Last month, KPMG reported the results of their study of CEOs and cybersecurity preparedness. Entitled “Global CEO Outlook 2015”, the report provided truly shocking information about the how the leadership of $500M enterprises felt about their safety in the event of a cyber attack.

This report polled over a 1,000 CEOs, and found the following results:

• 50% of the CEOs claimed that their firms are either not prepared, or only partially prepared, to deal with a major cyber event
• Only 20% of the CEOs considered data security risk to be at the top of their list of business concerns
• Over 60% of CEOs expressed some level of concern regarding their firm’s ability to keep their service as “relevant” three years from now as they are today
• Nearly 75% of the CEOs expressed concern about keeping current with new technologies in a rapidly changing world.

Even if your {city} business is not operating on the level of companies such as this, you still need to keep your data safe. The industry consensus is that cyber-risk remains unpredictable, in that it is much more difficult to quantify than with most other risks, and it is much harder to know when one is truly adequately prepared to address cyber-attacks. The bottom line is: better safe than sorry.
